Murder-Accused Shakib Al Hasan To Play PAK vs BAN 2nd Test? BCB Official Makes BIG Revelation

Shakib Al Hasan, embroiled in a murder case in Bangladesh, receives Bangladesh Cricket Board's backing ahead of the PAK vs BAN 2nd Test.

Shakib Al Hasan, the star Bangladesh cricketer, will continue playing for his national cricket team and will feature in the Pakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test despite the murder charges that he is facing along with 146 others amid the civil unrest in the country. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as per Bangladesh daily Prothom Alo, said on August 27 (Tuesday) that the allrounder will continue playing until proven guilty.

This development comes after BCB received a legal notice requesting the removal of the cricketer from all forms of cricket with immediate effect as per a Cricbuzz report.

The notice, asking for Shakib’s sacking from the team, was issued by the lawyers of Rafiqul Islam, father of the victim who was a factory worker and was killed in Dhaka, on 5 August amidst the nation-wide protests. The notice also demanded that Shakib should be brought back into the country so that the murder investigation progresses smoothly. Along with Shakib, Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also named in the murder case.

Shakib To Continue Playing For Bangladesh Confirms BCB

However, BCB president Faruque Ahmed confirmed that Shakib will continue playing despite receiving a legal notice demanding his return. The board has responded by affirming that Shakib will remain active.

“He [Shakib] will continue playing. There was a lawyer's notice to bring him back to the country, this is what we have said in his reply today,” BCB president Faruque Ahmed was quoted as saying by a Bangladesh daily, Prothom Alo.

“The complaint against Shakib is still at FIR stage. There are still many steps. Until the charges against him are proved, we will play him. After the Pakistan tour, the team will go to India. We want Shakib there too,” the BCB president adds further.

Faruque also highlighted that Shakib will also get legal help in this case from BCB.

“He is our contracted cricketer. We will also provide legal assistance to him if necessary.”
