Pakistan Cricket Board New Chairman: Mohsin Naqvi Unanimously Elected As Zaka Ashraf's Replacement

Pakistan Cricket Board New Chairman: Mohsin Naqvi takes charge of the position left vacant by Zaka Ashraf who had stepped down as the PCB Chairman.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Mohsin Naqvi as the new chairman of the board. In a statement shared by PCB on social media, it said that Mohsin, who happens to be Punjab Province's caretaker chief minister, was the unanimous choice for the role where he will serve a three-year term. In a piece of stat which goes on to suggest the troubled sitaution within the board and in Pakistan administration, Naqvi happens to be Pakistan's fourth chairman in as many years. Naqvi will replace Zaka Ashraf at the helm of affairs.

It is pertinent to note that the election of Naqvi comes as the tenure of the interim management committee which has been looking after the PCB affairs since December 2022 came to an end on February 4. While there is no official confirmation as yet, multiple reports carried by Pakistani media suggest that the process of electing new chairman of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the PCB would begin over the weekend.

Deeply Honoured With The Election: Naqvi

After being elected as the PCB chairman, Naqvi said that he was deeply honoured.

"I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. I am thankful for the trust and confidence reposed in me,"  Naqvi said after his election.

"I am fully committed to upgrading the standard of the game in the country and bringing professionalism in the administration of cricket in Pakistan," he added.

Notably, Zaka Ashraf had stepped down as the PCB chairman on January 19. He was at the position when Pakistan were eliminated in the ODI World Cup in India in the round-rovib stage itself. After their World Cup debacle, Babar Azam was removed as the captain across formats with Shan Masood being named as the Test captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi leading the Men in Green in T20Is.
