PAK vs WI 2nd Test: West Indies End 34-Year Wait, Defeat Pakistan By 120 Runs In Multan To Level Series 1-1

West Indies registered their first win on Pakistani soil in 34 years as they defeated Pakistan by 120 runs in the second Test in Multan, leveling the series 1-1.

PAK vs WI 2nd Test: West Indies defeated Pakistan by 120 runs in the second PAK vs WI Test in Multan on January 27 (Monday) to draw the two-match series 1-1. The victory came on Day 3, with Pakistan getting bowled out for just 133 runs while chasing a target of 254 on a rank-turner pitch. This came as West Indies’ only fifth-ever Test victory on Pakistani soil and the first in 34 years. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was the star for the visitors as he scalped 9 wickets, playing an instrumental role in Pakistan’s debacle.

While Pakistan won the first Test in Multan by 127 runs, the 1-1 series result sees them drop to the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table.

The last time West Indies defeated Pakistan on their home soil was in November 1990, when a Desmond Haynes-led team triumphed over Imran Khan's Pakistan by 7 wickets in Faisalabad.

Jomel Warrican, Gudakesh Motie Were Chief Architects Of Windies' Win

Batting first on a spin-friendly pitch, West Indies posted 163 in the first innings, with Gudakesh Motie contributing with 55 runs. For Pakistan, Noman Ali excelled with the ball, taking 6 wickets.

In response, West Indies' spin duo of Jomel Warrican and Gudakesh Motie took charge of the proceedings, claiming 7 wickets between them to dismiss Pakistan for just 154, giving the visitors a 9-run lead. Mohammad Rizwan (49) and Saud Shakeel (32) were the top scorers for Pakistan while the rest of the batting lineup faltered.

Kraigg Brathwaite's gritty 52 guided West Indies to 244 in their second innings, with Noman Ali (4/76) and Sajid Khan (4/76) once again making key breakthroughs. Chasing a challenging target of 254, Pakistan's top order collapsed on day 2, ending the day at 76/4.

The collapse continued on day 3 as Warrican dismantled the lower order, finishing with figures of 5/27 to become the top wicket-taker in the series with 19 wickets to his name. Although Babar Azam (31) and Rizwan (25) made an effort to guide the hosts towards victory, Pakistan were dismissed for just 133, giving the West Indies a commanding win.
