NZ vs AFG HIGHLIGHTS: New Zealand Thrash Afghanistan By 149 Runs For Fourth Win In A Row In World Cup 2023

Background

The New Zealand team will lock horns with Afghanistan in the 16th match of the 2023 World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on October 18. As of now, both teams have started their campaign in contrasting tones. The Kiwi side has been dominating the mega event as they won all three games and are currently standing second in the league table. Their last victory came against Bangladesh where Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell starred with the bat. But then they suffered a massive blow as their skipper Williamson injured his finger during their previous match.

Afghanistan on the other hand, outplayed the English side with a margin of 69 runs in their last clash. On the back of that win, they also marked their first victory in the campaign following losses to Bangladesh and India. They are currently placed at the sixth spot in the league standings, with two points from three games. The batting line-up of Afghanistan depends a lot on the shoulder of Gurbaz who has been going through a brilliant form. In the last game against England, he ended up scoring 80 runs and will look to do the same in the upcoming encounter.

Both teams will be looking to continue their momentum in order to win the game. New Zealand have to be careful against the deadly Afghanistan spinners as the match is slated to take place in Chennai which is renowned for assisting spinners.  As of now, a total of 36 matches have been played at the M. Chidambaram Stadium where teams batting first have won 17 matches while 18 games have been won by the teams who have bowled first at the venue. The average first innings total of the venue stands at 224 runs.

So, fasten your seatbelts and get ready for what promises an action-packed cricketing spectacle as New Zealand and Afghanistan go head to head in this ICC Men's Cricket World Cup clash. It will be a battle of skill, strategy, and sheer determination, all coming your way from Chennai.
