'My Father Started Crying': Yashasvi Jaiswal After Maiden India Test Call-Up For Windies Series
The left-hand opener also spoke about the inputs and suggestions he got from several Indian cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane during his training
On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared the Indian squads for two Tests and three-match One-Day-Internationals (ODIs) against West Indies where they added Yashasvi Jaiswal to the Test Squad. Jaiswal finally got a reward for his impressive run in the recently passed IPL 2023. The 21-year-old batter talked about the reaction of his father after he got selected for India’s Test team. Jaiswal was even asked to travel with the Indian camp as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad in the reserves for the World Test Championship Final.
The Mumbai-based batter did not vet a chance to meet his mother since his selection but then he opened up about his father as to how he reacted when he heard the news.
“My father started crying (when he got to know). I have not yet met my mother; I am going to see her in some time. I was out from the morning, had a practice session as well as some other work. I’m feeling good, I will try to do my best. I am excited but at the same time I just want to go out and express myself. I was a little nervous, till the time you do not get to know that your name is there in the team, there are butterflies. But it is a good feeling,” Jaiswal spoke to PTI on Friday.
The left-hand opener also spoke about the inputs and suggestions he got from several Indian cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane during his training. He is one of four openers who got an India call for India’s longest format assignment against the West Indies.
“My preparations have been going well and I got to interact a lot with the senior players. The conversation has been very simple – to focus on my work. I learned from them that in the end ‘it is all about you, how you take it going forward’,” said Jaiswal
