Unbreakable? No Player Has Threatened Chris Gayle's IPL Record

The former MI skipper became the first player in the team's history to surpass 6000 runs in T20 cricket.

Chris Gayle holds several iconic records in the history of the Indian Premier League, but one in particular has remained untouched for over a decade. While many rising stars are rewriting the IPL record books, Gayle's monumental feat continues to stand tall.

Gayle's 175 – The Highest Individual Score In IPL History

In the 2013 season, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chris Gayle smashed an unbeaten 175 runs off just 66 balls against Pune Warriors. His innings included 13 fours and an astonishing 17 sixes — a knock that has yet to be surpassed in any IPL match. The second-highest individual score still belongs to Brendon McCullum, who scored 158* for KKR in the inaugural match of IPL 2008.

Abhishek Sharma's Fireworks In IPL 2025

In the ongoing 2025 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma came close to the record with a blistering 144-run innings against Punjab Kings. He faced just 55 balls, hitting 14 fours and 10 sixes, making it the third-highest score in IPL history. Despite the fireworks, Gayle's 175* remains untouched.

Future Stars Offer New Hope

Young talents like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya have shown incredible promise. Vaibhav, just 14 years old, recently became the second-fastest century scorer in IPL history, reaching the mark in only 35 balls - just behind Gayle. Priyansh Arya also impressed with a century in his debut season for Punjab Kings.

With such exciting young talent emerging, the day may not be far when even Chris Gayle’s long-standing record could finally be challenged.

Here are the top 10 highest individual scores in IPL history as of May 1, 2025:

1. Chris Gayle: 175* (66 balls) – Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Pune Warriors India, 2013

2. Brendon McCullum: 158* (73 balls) – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, 2008
