South Africa Fall Short Despite Being Ahead Of India At One Stage In T20 World Cup Final
With South Africa chasing 176 in 20 overs, they only needed 26 runs off just 24 balls after Heinrich Klaasen’s excellent 26-ball 52 runs knock. However he lost his wicket on the very first ball of the 16th over and from then on, South Africa only went downwards. Ultimately, they lost the match by seven runs. The Proteas cricketers and support staff were visibly dejected, with tears streaming down the faces of senior players David Miller, Kagiso Rabada and Quinton de Kock.
This was South Africa's first appearance in the final of any ICC World Cup tournament. Before this, they had made it to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup for seven times combined.
With the win India became the T20 world champions for the second time, after 17 long years. They also ended their 11-year old ICC trophy drought.
