India Women Crowned Tri-Series Champions After Crushing 97-Run Win Over Sri Lanka In Final

India Women clinched the Tri-Nation Series 2025 title with a dominant 97-run win over Sri Lanka in the final.

India Women, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, delivered a commanding performance to defeat Sri Lanka Women by 97 runs in the final of the Women’s ODI Tri-Nation Series 2025 on Sunday, May 11, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With this emphatic victory, India clinched the tri-series title, capping off a dominant campaign in style.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India posted a daunting total of 342-7 in 50 overs, riding on a sublime century from opener Smriti Mandhana. The elegant left-hander scored a 101-ball 116, making Sri Lanka pay dearly for dropping her on 21. Mandhana stitched a 70-run opening stand with Pratika Rawal and added 120 more with Harleen Deol for the second wicket to set the foundation. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues chipped in with brisk 40s to pile further pressure on Sri Lanka, who struggled both in the field and with the ball.

Faced with a monumental target of 343, Sri Lanka never truly looked in the contest. Despite their spirited fight throughout the series, chasing 343 in a final proved far too steep a challenge. The Indian bowlers kept things tight, ensuring there was no repeat of the group-stage game where Sri Lanka had successfully chased 275.

In the end, India’s clinical display in all departments proved too much for the hosts. Their dominance throughout the tournament culminated in a well-deserved championship win, reaffirming their status as one of the top sides in women’s cricket.

Here's what India captain Harmanpreet Kaur said after the win:

"Proud of the entire team, especially the batters, we wanted to play good cricket, were looking to bat first if we win the toss and pretty happy with how we played. We can never stop improving, lots of areas where we can keep doing better, be it batting, bowling or fielding. Our pacers keep getting injured, that's something we need to keep care of, the coaches are working on it. Positives, the other batters except me and Smriti, the way they batted was pleasing. Sneh Rana with the ball, there were lots of positives. Enjoyed the conditions here in Sri Lanka, we did struggle to get accustomed to the heat, but we then got used to it and nice to win this trophy."
