Indian batting legend Virat Kohli, after being rested for IND vs WI 2nd ODI fixture, turned waterboy and served drinks to his teammates. He was joined by star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was also not playing the 2nd ODI against Windies after being dropped once again. Back in 2017, Virat Kohli had done the same 'waterboy task' when he was dropped from India XI due to a shoulder injury, for India vs Australia Test match in Dharamshala. Notably, senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were rested for 2nd ODI and all-rounder Hardik Pandya was asked to lead the national team in the fixture.

At the time of toss, stand-in captain Hardik Pandya revealed why Rohit and Virat were missing from India XI for 2nd ODI. "We were looking to bat first. We want to see how much we can score on this pitch which is a bit up and down. Rohit and Virat have been playing constant cricket, so they are resting in this game. They can be fresh for the third ODI," Pandya said.
Rohit and Virat's exit made way for youngsters Sanju Samson and Axar Patel in India XI. Like the 1st ODI, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill were asked to open the innings.
Other players who were part of India XI for IND vs WI 2nd ODI are Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik and Mukesh Kumar. Asked to bat first, Team India started well and were 90 for loss of no wickets. India's batting saw a major collapse as the visitors were reeling at 113/5. Axar Patel, Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya flopped in the middle order, scoring in single digits. West Indies chased down the paltry 181-run target in 36.4 overs to level the series 1-1.
