IND vs SA,1st Test, Day 5: India Beat Proteas By 203-Runs, Take 1-0 Lead

Paceman Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a five-for to seal the game and help India take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series

A phenomenal performance by the Indian bowlers powered India to 203-run win against South Africa in first Test at Vizag. Paceman Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he picked a five-fer to seal the game and help India take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series. With another victory in the ICC World Test Championship, team India added 40 more points to their kitty and reached at the top of the World Test Championship points table. The bowling duo of Ashwin and Shami struck early to give team India two early wickets on Day 5. With India needing 9 wickets to win, Theunis De Bruyn (10) and Aiden Markram (39) gave a fiery start to Proteas innings - straight away smashing speedster Shami for a boundary off his very first over. Veteran Ashwin came up with the breakthrough as he bowled de Bruyn to become joint-fastest to 350 Test wickets with Sri Lankan legend Muralitharan. Few balls later, Mohammed Shami went past Temba Bavuma's defence to rattle his stumps. The visitors were crawling at 20/3 and required another 371 runs with 7 wickets remaining.
Captain Faf du Plessis (13) and Aiden tried to steady their ship but it was again Shami who took advantage of low bounce to destroy Proteas skipper's off stump and later dismissed Quinton de Kock for a duck to send half South African side back to the pavilion at 60/5.
Next to crease was Muthusway, who remained unbeaten in his first innings. With South Africa's hopes rapidly fading, Jadeja bagged back-to-back three wickets in one over - first he took a catch off his bowling to dismiss Makram and just two balls later got both Philander and Keshav Maharaj LBW out to push India to the brink of victory.
India needed just two wickets to close the game but Piedt and Muthuswamy resisted with a record unbroken 94-run partnership for ninth wicket. Adding to India's agony, Piedt showed exemplary patience to notch up his fifty for the first time in Test cricket.
Piedt finally fell to Shami as he got bowled after making 56 off 107 deliveries. The speedster also dismissed Rabada to take the final wicket and attain a big win for team India.
