Winning the toss third time on the bounce in the series, Aiden Markram decided to bowl first. Batting first, India lost Sanju Samson on the second ball of the match as he registered his second consecutive duck after scoring two consecutive T20I centuries, marking a rare feat.

However, despite losing Samson early, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma kept runs coming at a steady rate for India. Abhishek ended his poor run-form with a quickfire knock of 50 off 25 balls before getting out, with India 107-2 in 8.4 overs. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav got out early after departing for just 1 run but Tilak Varma played a sensational knock and scored his maiden century off just 51 balls. He eventually ended his innings at 107 off 56 balls, helping India finish with 219-6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 220, South Africa started decently but then lost both openers, Reeza Hendricks and Ryan Rickelton, within the powerplay.Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs also could not contribute much to the cause but Heinrich Klaasen lived up to his reputation as he made a 22-ball 41 runs knock.
Marco Jansen gave India a scare by hitting a rapid 16-ball fifty, bringing South Africa close to a thrilling win, but Arshdeep Singh made sure that he could not convert the scare into a reality for India as he removed Jansen in the final over.
South Africa finished on 207-7 in 20 overs, losing the match by 11 runs.
