Rohit Sharma loses 12th toss in a row
New Zealand's Mitchell Santner won and opted to bowl first. While losing the toss might seem like a setback for India, history suggests otherwise. So far in the Champions Trophy, India has lost all four tosses but has still gone on to win every match.
If this pattern continues, losing the toss could once again work in India's favor in the final.
Rohit Sharma has now matched an unwanted record, becoming the joint-holder for the most consecutive toss losses as a captain. He surpasses West Indies legend Brian Lara, who held the record between 1998 and 1999.
Meanwhile, India's streak of losing tosses in ODIs has now stretched to 15 matches. The last time India won a toss in this format was during the 2023 ODI World Cup semifinal against New Zealand.
Most consecutive tosses lost by a captain in ODIs
12 Rohit Sharma (Nov 2023 - Mar 2025)*
12 Brian Lara (Oct 1998 - May 1999)
11 Peter Borren (Mar 2011 - Aug 2013)
