IND vs ENG 3rd Test: KL Rahul Hits Fifty, Pant Steady As India Reach 145/3 At Stumps On Day 2

Despite losing three wickets, India will be relieved to have a solid partnership building. With Pant and Rahul still at the crease, the visitors will look to close the gap significantly on Day 3.

On a gripping second day of the Lord’s Test between India and England, the visitors ended at 145/3 at stumps, still trailing England by 242 runs.

While the day began with England adding crucial runs to their first-innings total, India’s response was steady yet cautious, thanks to a gritty half-century from KL Rahul (53) and a composed unbeaten knock by Rishabh Pant (19).

After England posted 387 runs in their first innings, largely driven by Joe Root’s century and contributions from Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse, India were put under immediate pressure by the English pace attack.

KL Rahul stands tall amid collapse

India lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal early, falling for just 13 to Jofra Archer, who marked his return to Test cricket in style. Skipper Shubman Gill (16) followed soon after, while Karun Nair (40), looking in good touch, was dismissed just when a solid stand was building.

KL Rahul, however, stood tall amid the collapse. The experienced batter weathered testing spells from both Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes, compiling a vital 53 off 113 deliveries, laced with classy strokes all around the wicket. His calmness at the crease brought stability just when India needed it.

Pant survives injury, walks out to bat

At the other end, Rishabh Pant continued to bat sensibly, ending the day unbeaten on 19 off 33 balls. He curbed his natural attacking instinct and focused on consolidation, ensuring India didn’t lose further ground before stumps. Bringing major relief for Team India, Pant—injured on Day 1—walked out to bat at his regular number 5 position.

Despite losing three wickets, India will be relieved to have a solid partnership building. With Pant still at the crease and the lower order capable of scoring, the visitors will look to close the gap significantly on Day 3.

As things stand, England have the upper hand, but India have shown resilience—setting up another intriguing day of Test cricket ahead.
