IND vs BAN, 2nd Test: Virat Kohli Becomes Fastest To 5000 Test Runs As Captain
Virat Kohli became the fastest to reach 5000-run milestone as Test captain during his innings against Bangladesh in Day-Night Test being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata
Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Friday added another record to his already glittering list of batting accolades as he became the fastest to reach 5000 runs as captain of a Test team.
Kohli took 86 innings to get to the milestone, going past former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting who took 97 innings to get to the landmark.
Kohli achieved the landmark when he reached 32 during his innings on Day 1 of their second Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. The Kolkata Test is India's first ever day-night Test match.
India were on cruise mode throughout the first day of the Pink Ball Test at the Eden Gardens. They first dismissed Bangladesh for 106 and then overtook that score in under a single session. Openers Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma were dismissed for 14 and 21 respectively. Kohli then steadied the innings with Cheteshwar Pujara to help India take the lead with the solid third wicket stand. Earlier, it was Ishant Sharma who orchestrated Bangladesh's collapse taking five wickets for 22 runs which was only the second instance of him taking a fifer in a home Test. Out of the 30.3 overs that were bowled during the Bangladesh innings, only one over was bowled by a spinner.Milestone Alert🚨: @imVkohli completes 5000 Test runs as #TeamIndia captain. @Paytm #PinkBallTest #INDvBAN pic.twitter.com/fu7fozfoUu
