Virat Kohli On Verge Of Historic Feat: Just 58 Runs Away From 'First Achievement In 147 Years'

Former India skipper Virat Kohli has so far accumulated 26,942 runs across 591 innings in Tests, ODIs, and T20s.

Virat Kohli has so far accumulated 26,942 runs across 591 innings in Tests, ODIs, and T20s. If he scores 58 more runs in the upcoming Test and T20I series against Bangladesh, he will become the fastest player to reach 27,000 runs in international cricket.

Virat Kohli can also surpass Sachin Tendulkar

Achieving this milestone in his next 8 innings will also make him the first batsman to complete 27,000 runs in just 600 innings. The current record for the fastest 27,000 runs is held by Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the milestone in 623 innings.

Before Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and Ricky Ponting had reached the 27,000-run mark in international cricket.

Tendulkar scored 34,357 runs in 782 innings with 100 centuries. Sangakkara accumulated 28,016 runs in 666 innings, including 63 centuries. Ponting recorded 27,483 runs in 668 innings, with 71 centuries.

Virat Kohli retired from T20 internationals after leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. In T20Is, he scored 4,188 runs in 117 innings from 125 matches, with 1 century and 38 half-centuries.

In Test cricket, Kohli has accumulated 8,848 runs in 191 innings across 113 matches, including 29 centuries. In ODIs, he has amassed 13,906 runs in 283 innings from 295 matches, and his 50 centuries in this format is the highest by any player.

Virat Kohli has retired from T20 internationals, meaning he and Rohit Sharma will miss the upcoming three-match T20I series between India and Bangladesh. They are expected to return for the three-match Test series against New Zealand, which starts on October 16.
