'Shubman Gill Misses Out, Ashwin In': Check Playing XI For ICC Cricket World Cup Match Between India And Australia In Chennai
India vs Australia Playing XI: Australia won the toss and invited India to bowl first. India and Australia, the two powerhouses in international cricket, begin their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign with a high-octane clash against Australia in Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday (October 8).
Captain Rohit Sharma, at the time of the toss, revealed that Shubman Gill won't be part of today's ICC Cricket World Cup match between India and Australia as he failed to recover in time. Ishan Kishan comes in as Shubman's replacement and will open the innings alongside Rohit.
"The conditions are there for the bowlers and the ball will turn as the game goes on, you need to understand what line and lengths to bowl and adjust accordingly. We played a lot of cricket before that, we played two good series before the warm up games, we have covered all bases. Unfortunately he (Shubman Gill) didn't recover in time, we waited till today morning and he couldn't recover. Ishan comes in to replace him, he will open the batting," India skipper Rohit Sharma said after the toss.
Australia skipper Pat Cummins expressed his satisfaction upon winning the toss on a batting-friendly Chennai track.
"We'll bat first, looks like a good wicket. The sun is out and looks like a good afternoon to bat. We are in a really good spot, we have played quite a lot of cricket but we got a good balance of giving guys game time and keeping them fresh. Travis Head is on a couch in Adelaide, Abbott, Stoinis and Inglis miss out," Pat Cummins said after winning the crucial toss in Chennai.
