IND vs AUS 3rd Test: Australia Break Bumrah-Akash Stand Early On Day 5, India Bowled Out For 260
IND vs AUS: Australia only took 24 balls to wrap India's innings up and take the last wicket on Day 5 of the Brisbane Test, bowling India out for 260 and gaining a considerable lead of 185 runs.
IND vs AUS 3rd Test: Australia bowled India out for 260 in the second innings of the ongoing India vs Australia 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 on December 18 (Wednesday) at The Gabba, Brisbane. Despite a valiant effort by KL Rahul and India’s lower-order, India still conceded the lead of 185 runs. However, India's last-wicket stand of Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah added 47 runs to India's total tally of 260 runs and helped the visitors avoid the follow-on and significantly reducing the chances of a defeat.
On Day 5 of the IND vs AUS Test, India resumed from their overnight score of 252-9 and could only add eight more runs as Travis Head removed Akash Deep by getting him stumped by wicket-keeper Alex Carey. Akash scored an impressive 44-ball 31 runs knock, including a six and two boundaries.
The 10th-wicket stand between Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep diminished Australia's chances of securing a win in the Test. Adding to Australia's challenges on Day 5 is the weather, with frequent rain interruptions—over 12 stoppages—disrupting play throughout the match. Further compounding their woes is Josh Hazlewood's injury, which has ruled the pacer out of the series, leaving Australia with just two specialist fast bowlers in this match.

Akash-Bumrah Stand Helps India Avoid Follow-On After 100s From Head, Smith
Earlier in the match, India won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, Australia posted a strong total of 445 runs, credits to centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. Head continued his stellar form in the series and notched his second century, notching up 152 runs. Steve Smith, on the other hand, scored 101 runs, his first Test century of 2024.
In reply, India's top order struggled once again, except for KL Rahul, who displayed resilience with a fighting 84. Ravindra Jadeja contributed a brilliant 77, bringing India closer to avoiding the follow-on. However, it was the crucial partnership between Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah that sealed India's fightback and ensured they avoided the follow-on.
