'If This Was Rohit...': Virat Kohli Memes Trend On Social Media After Batter Is Seen Enjoying Food Post WTC Final Failure

Fans were expecting Virat Kohli to rescue Team India from a difficult situation and put them back on top in the WTC Final. He amassed 14 runs off 31 deliveries.

With India looking to end their ICC title drought since 2013, all eyes were on their star player Virat Kohli after not the best of starts with the bat in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval in London. After Rohit Sharma invited Australia to have a bat first in overcast conditions, the Kangaroos were up to the challenge and posted 469 runs in the first innings. In response, India looked good early on but lost both the openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in a span of 4 deliveries to go from 30/0 to 30/2 which is when Kohli came in to bat.

With this being a huge match and a World title at stake, fans were expecting, Kohli, who is often regarded as one of the finest batters among modern-day cricketers with some even rating him among the all-time greats, to come good in this match and resuce the team from a difficult situation and put them back on top in this summit clash. However, it wasn't to be at least in the first innings with the right-handed batter only managing to amass 14 runs off 31 deliveries.

Moments after his dismissal though, Kohli was caught on camera enjoying his food which seemed to have irked a section of fans on social media who were not too pleased and shared memes featuring him on the internet. It is pertinent to note that Kohli was on the field for more than half the day only after which the Indian innings had started.

"Imagine if it was Rohit 😭," posted one user referring to the kind of backlash the Indian captain receives on Twitter.

"If it was Rohit, people would have dragged him left right and centre. But yaa its Virat, so need to be protected at all costs," wrote another.

Some even compared Kohli's reaction after a loss his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered and compared that to this now viral picture.

As far as the match situation is concerned, India trail Australia's first innings score by 318 runs and only have 5 wickets remaining at Stumps on Day 2. Ajinkya Rahane (29* off 71) and KS Bharat (5* off 14) will resume the Indian innings from 151/5 when action commences on Friday (June 6).
