Defamation Case Filed Against MS Dhoni By Former Business Partners, Hearing On Jan 18

The lawsuit by Diwakar and Das comes after MS Dhoni's criminal case against them for their alleged violation of a contract signed in 2017.

A defamation case has been filed against former India cricketer MS Dhoni. The suit has been filed at the Delhi High Coury by Dhoni's former business partner Mihir Diwakar. Diwakar's wife Soumya Das is also one of those who have officially registered a the lawsuit against the ex-Indian men's cricket team captain. The same has been confirmed as per a report carried by news agency PTI.

The said report claims that Diwakar and Das want Dhoni and those acting on his behalf from making any kind of allegations that are of a defamotory nature. The suit is in relation to the alleged breach of a contact between the two parties in 2017.

It is pertinent to note that Dhoni had entered into an agreement with Aarka Sports Management which happens to be a company owned by Diwakar and Das. The contract catered to establishment of cricket academies in India and around the world. Even though the case has been filed on Tuesday (January 16), it is lined up for hearing before Justice Pratibha M Singh on Thursday (January 18). 

As per the suit Dhoni and those acting on behalf of him have allegedly made defamoatory allegations against the owners of the Aarka Sports Management. Dhoni's allegation was that Diwakar and Das had duped the cricketer of nearly 15 crore after they failed to establish the cricket academies within the stipulated period. After this Diwakar said that even before the findings of the court, Dhoni's lawyer Dayanand Shamra conducted a press conference and made the defamatory allegations. The lawsuit by Diwakar and Das comes after Dhoni's criminal case against them for their alleged violation of a contract signed in 2017.

As far as Dhoni's cricketing journey is concerned, the retired international cricketer, is all set to lead CSK in IPL 2024. Even though Dhoni struggled with a knee injury last season, he underwent a surgery at the conclusion of IPL 2023 and has started gearing up for the 2024 season already with video of him batting at the nets surfacing on social media.
