The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of Team India on Tuesday (July 9). The former India opener will begin his tenure with the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting from July 27 onwards.

The 2011 ODI World Cup winner will remain as team India's head coach until 2027 ODI World Cup. BCCI will decide on extending Gambhir's contract based on his performance.

During his tenure, Gautam Gambhir will have the chance to mentor the Men in Blue for 5 ICC trophies: Champions Trophy in 2025, WTC Final in 2025, T20 World Cup in 2026, ODI World Cup in 2027, and WTC Final in 2027.
