Chris Gayle Becomes First Windies Cricketer To Play 300 ODIs
Chris Gayle became the first West Indian cricketer to play 300 one day internationals.
Windies swashbuckling opener Chris Gayle scaled another milestone in his stellar ODI career when he took to the field against India in the second one day international at Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Sunday. Gayle became the first West Indian cricketer to play 300 one day internationals.
Gayle overtook West Indian great Brian Lara's record 299 ODI appearances to become the first player from his nation to enter the elite 300-ODI club list.
Gayle already is the most capped ODI player for his nation, turning out 297 times for the 'Maroon Brigade' in the shorter format of the game. The belligerent Jamaican Opener eclipsed the record of West Indian great Brian Lara who played 295 matches for West Indies.
Gayle also surpassed Brian Lara's record for the most runs by a West Indies batsman in ODI cricket. Needing just 7 runs to overtake Lara, Gayle scored 11 runs to achieve the landmark, before getting out to left arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed in the second ODI against India.
Gayle is also West Indies leading ton maker and six hitter in one day international cricket. Gayle is also the only West Indian with a double hundred in ODIs. He had scored a double century in the 2015 World Cup against Zimbabwe.
West Indies lost the second one day international to India, giving the visitors a crucial 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. The third and final ODI of the series is scheduled to take place in Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad
