Brendon McCullum Appointed As England Men's T20I & ODI Teams Head Coach

Brendon McCullum, who was England's men's Test team head coach is set to take over as the head coach of the T20I and ODI teams as well.

Brendon McCullum, former New Zealand captain and England’s men’s Test team head coach has been appointed as the head coach of the men’s limited-over teams as well. McCullum will be taking over the reins from Matthew Mott after he stepped down from the role after England’s semifinal exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news on September 3 (Monday) and expressed that McCullum will take over the white-ball coaching reins as part of a strategic restructuring in the England Men’s senior set-up.

The ECB also announced that McCullum, who has been the men’s Test team head coach since May 2022, has extended his contract until the end of 2027. Starting January 2025, McCullum will coach both the Test and white-ball teams, with his tenure beginning during England’s white-ball tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Test team, and I’m excited to extend my role to include the white-ball sides. This new challenge is something I’m ready to embrace, and I’m eager to work closely with Jos (Buttler) and the team to build on the strong foundations that are already in place,” McCullum said.

“The talent within English cricket is immense, and I’m looking forward to helping these players reach their full potential. My goal is to create an environment where everyone can thrive and where we can continue to compete at the highest level across all formats,” he added.
