Ashes 2019: Blow To Australia As David Warner Sustains Thigh Injury Ahead Of 1st Test

Warner had to leave the nets with a bruised left thigh as he was hit by a delivery from medium-pacer Michael Neser

Australia faced a major blow right ahead of the first Ashes Test after their key batter David Warner sustained a thigh injury at the nets. The incident happened at the Edgbaston pitch on Monday when the Aussies walked out for their routine training session. Warner had to leave the nets with a bruised left thigh as he was hit by a delivery from medium-pacer Michael Neser. He was seen receiving medical assistance and was also treated with ice on his injury. The left-hand batter is now left with less than two days to get back on track for the Ashes 2019 opener in Birmingham on August 1. Warner’s injury could be a major setback as he is one of the key batters of the Aussie top-order. Arch-rivals Australia and England are set to lock horns in the 71st Ashes series that will run over seven weeks. Warner will be returning to the Australian Test side for the first time since the Cape Town ball-tampering incident that led to a one-year ban on the batsman, along with then captain Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft. Warner was in a destructive form in the recently concluded World Cup 2019 where his side lost in the semi-finals to first-time winners England. Warner was the second-highest run-scorer in the World Cup with 647 runs in 10 innings that also included 3 hundreds.
