Cape Town Test: Rain acts spoiler on Day 3

Cape Town [South Africa], Jan 7 (ANI): Heavy rains washed out the morning session on Day Three of the first of three-match Test series between India and South Africa, here on Sunday.

After the rain had stopped, it started drizzling again just 25 minutes before the scheduled tea interval.

On Day Two, South Africa were leading with 142 as their second innings total read 65/2 at stumps.

Earlier, in India's first innings, all-rounder Hardik Pandya shone with the bat and the ball to help India stay afloat against the hosts.

Pandya scored a swashbuckling 93 and then picked two wickets in the day later.

Having lost Murali Vijay (1), Shikhar Dhawan (16) and skipper Virat Kohli (5) cheaply on Day One, India relied heavily on their swashbuckling batsmen Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara after they took the team past 50-run mark.

But, Rohit and Pujara failed to convert their good start into big innings and were dismissed lowly for 11 and 26 respectively.

However, Pandya came from behind and served as the lone survivor for India by notching up a 93-run knock as the visitors staged a late fight back in the match. (ANI)
