Big Bash League 2021: Andre Russell Smashes 34 Runs From 6 Balls - Watch Video

Andre Russell was adjudged the man of the match award for his brilliant batting. It is worth noting that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has retained Russell for IPL 2022.

New Delhi: West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell played a stormy innings in the Big Bash League on Sunday to guide the Melbourne Stars to a six-wicket win over Sydney Thunder. For Melbourne Stars, Russell played a stormy innings of 42 runs off 21 balls. During his innings, he hit 5 sixes and a four.

Russell is playing in the Big Bash League after 4 years. He was last seen in the tournament in the year 2017. Thanks to his power-packed innings, Melbourne Stars chased down the target of 152 runs with 17 balls to spare to win the match by 6 wickets.

Batting first, Sydney Thunder scored 151 runs. Alex Ross scored the maximum 77 runs for his team with help of 4 sixes and 4 fours.

Chasing the target of 152 runs, Melbourne Stars got off to a poor start and lost four wickets in 11 overs.  After this, Russell came out to bat and steadied the innings alongside Hilton Cartwright (23 not out off 13 balls) as they easily chased down the target with 17 balls remaining.

Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell was also among the star performers as he contributed with 40 runs off 25 balls.

Russell was adjudged the man of the match award for his brilliant batting. It is worth noting that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has retained Russell for IPL 2022.

The Windies all-rounder has been retained by KKR for Rs 12 crore. KKR had reached the final in IPL 2021. In the final, they were defeated by MS Dhoni-led CSK.
