Australian Open: Kidambi Srikanth to take on China's Shi Yuqi in semis

Sydney [Australia], June 24 (ANI): Recently-crowned Indonesia Open champion Kidambi Srikanth will today take on fourth seed China's Shi Yuqi in the semi-finals of the men's singles event of the Australian Open Super Series here at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

Srikanth continued his fine form as he defeated fellow countryman B. Sai Praneeth 25-23, 21-17 in a thrilling all-Indian last-eight clash that lasted 45 minutes.

Yesterday's game was Srikanth's third quarter-final in the last five tournaments that he has participated in.

Last Sunday, the Indian shuttler had come out with a spectacular performance as he defeated unseeded Kazumasa Sakai of Japan in straight games to win the men's singles title of the Indonesia Super Series Premier badminton tournament in Jakarta.

This was Srikanth's second Super Series Premier title after he won the 2014 China Open Super Series Premier. Overall, it is his third Super Series title as he has also emerged champion at the Indian Open Super Series in 2015. (ANI)
