'Someone Who I Could Call 2:30 In Morning': Harbhajan Singh Recalls Bond With Andrew Symonds

Andrew Symonds, who played 198 ODIs for Australia, was also part of the 2003 and 2003 World Cup squads. In these two years, Australia won back-to-back titles under the captaincy of Ponting.

New Delhi: Australian legendary cricketer and two-time World Cup winner Andrew Symonds died in a car accident in Australia's Queensland on Sunday. He was aged 46. As per Reuters, police said the car Symonds was driving left the road and rolled. The police statement described it as a single vehicle accident. "Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries," the police statement said, as per Reuters.

Meanwhile, former India all-rounder Harbhajan Singh remembered Andrew Symonds with an emotional homage. The two star cricketers were involved in the infamous 'monkey gate' saga in the year 2008 but despite all this, the duo shared a great bond off the field. Recalling his friendship with the Aussie all-rounder, Harbhajan said Symonds was someone he could call at 2:30 in the morning.

"We used to sit together, have a drink, laugh, share a lot of stories. He was someone who I could call at 2:30 in the morning and say ‘hey mate, what are you doing, what are you up to, lets meet' and he would be up for it,” said Harbhajan on Star Sports.

“I woke up this morning and saw my phone and I was shattered with this news that Andrew is no more. I still can't believe Andrew is no more because he's such a strong guy and whatever has happened is a very sad thing. My condolence to his family and friends and it's a loss for all of us,” added Harbhajan.

Symonds, who played 198 ODIs for Australia, was also part of the 2003 and 2003 World Cup squads. In these two years, Australia won back-to-back titles under the captaincy of Ponting without losing any match. Apart from this, the legendary all-rounder played 26 Tests for Australia.
