'What Did Others Do?': Harbhajan Singh On MS Dhoni Getting Credit For India's 2011 World Cup Win
The entire nation erupted in joy 11 years ago when captain MS Dhoni had hit Sri Lanka's Nuwan Kulasekara for a huge six to power India to their 2nd ODI World Cup win.
New Delhi: Ex-India spinner Harbhajan Singh is currently working as a Cricket Analyst with Star Sports for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. During this, Harbhajan commented on MS Dhoni being given credit for team India's 2011 World Cup win.
India had played the final match of the 2011 World Cup against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, in which Dhoni scored an unbeaten 91 and was adjudged man of the match for his heroics.
The entire nation erupted in joy 11 years ago when captain MS Dhoni had hit Sri Lanka's Nuwan Kulasekara for a huge six to power India to their 2nd ODI World Cup win. India had then won an ODI World Cup after a huge gap of 28 years after Kapil Dev beat mighty Windies at Lords in 1983.
During the show, Harbhajan Singh opined that a team wins a match on the basis of collective team performance, not just an individual.
"When Australia wins the World Cup at that time everyone says ‘Australia won the World Cup’. When India won the World Cup at that time, everyone said, ‘MS Dhoni won the World Cup. Toh baaki ke 10 waha lassi peene gaye the?,” said Harbhajan Singh while speaking on Star Sports.
“What did the other 10 players do? What did Gautam Gambhir do? What did the others do? It’s a team game. When 7-8 players play well only then only your team will progress”, he added.

In 2011, India created history by winning the ODI World Cup. Under Dhoni's captaincy, India won the 2013 Champions Trophy title as well. Dhoni is the only captain who has led the Indian cricket team to three ICC trophies wins.
