World's Highest Weather Station Installed On Mt Everest By NatGeo Scientists

New Delhi: A scientific expedition team led by experts from the National Geographic Society has established the world's highest weather station on Mount Everest at an altitude of 8,830 meters above sea level, the Nepalese media reported on Thursday. Nepal's Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) said the automatic weather conditions station was introduced a couple of meters underneath the summit point (8,848.86 meters) last week as the snow and ice on the summit are not appropriate for fixing hardware.

The weather monitoring system, controlled by solar energy, should gauge different meteorological phenomena like air temperature, wind speed, air pressure, change in the surface level of snow, and incoming and active short and longwave radiation.

The NatGeo group, driven by environment researcher Baker Perry from the Appalachian State University in the US, is comprised of acclaimed climbers and researchers, a significant number of whom scaled the world's most noteworthy top while introducing the weather conditions station.

The DHM and National Geographic marked an update of understanding to work every one of the five Automatic Weather Stations introduced by NatGeo to give close to constant data with respect to mountain conditions.

Under the MoU, the National Geographic team will completely work the stations till 2025 preceding moving the innovation to the Nepal government in 2026, the report said.

As indicated by DHM authorities, the group got back to Kathmandu after achieving the mission.

DHM's Director-General Kamal Ram Joshi said the DHM had mentioned the NatGeo group to send information straightforwardly to Nepal specialists without diverting it by means of the NatGeo servers, as it has been as of recently.

A Chinese campaign had additionally introduced a programmed meteorological monitoring system on the northern side of Everest at an elevation of 8,800 meters, the report said.

As indicated by Chinese media reports, Beijing has eight stations set up from 5,200 meters to 8,800 meters on Mt Everest, with four stations surpassing 7,000 meters at 7,028 meters, 7,790 meters, 8,300 meters, and 8,800 meters.
