Every year, the Chemistry Nobel is the third award to be announced in the Nobel series, which includes six prizes. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is also the last science Nobel to be announced every year. The 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to French physicists Anne L'Huillier and Pierre Agostini, and Hungarian-Austrian physicist Ferenc Krausz on October 3, 2023. 

The 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Hungarian American biochemist Katalin Karikó and American physician Drew Weissman on October 2, 2023. 

Barry Sharpless, Morten Meldal and Carolyn Bertozzi won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for important breakthroughs that made it possible to create new molecules efficiently. Creation of new molecules is vital for pharmaceuticals, as well as materials science. 

Benjamin List and David WC MacMillan won the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry “for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis".

People can watch the announcement of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry on the official website, Youtube channel, or X (formerly Twitter) account of the Nobel Prize organisation.

The livestream will begin a few minutes before the scheduled announcement time of 3:15 pm IST.

History of Nobel Prize in Chemistry

As of 2022, as many as 63 chemistry prizes have been given to one laureate only, as many as 25 prizes have been shared by two laureates, and 26 have been shared by three laureates.

From 1901 to 2022, as many as 191 Nobel Prizes in Chemistry have been awarded. Frederick Sanger and Barry Sharpless have been awarded the Chemistry Nobel twice. Therefore, the number of Chemistry Nobel laureates as of 2022 is 189.

As many as eight women have been awarded the Chemistry Nobel as of 2022. Marie Curie and Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin were awarded unshared prizes in chemistry.
