Charity and donations made in this month are considered highly auspicious and are believed to bring blessings not just in this life but across lifetimes.
Vaishakh Purnima holds special significance as, on this day, the moon resides in the Vishakha Nakshatra, which is why the month is called Vaishakh. It is also believed that the Treta Yuga began in this very month.
Vaishakh month has started today, on 13th April 2025, and will conclude on 12th May 2025, after which the month of Jyeshtha will begin. Why Is Lord Vishnu Worshipped During The Month Of Vaishakh?
During the month of Vaishakh, there is a special tradition of worshipping the various incarnations of Lord Vishnu. In this sacred month, devotees especially offer prayers to his avatars such as Parashurama, Narasimha, Hayagriva, Nara-Narayana, and Buddha.
It is considered highly auspicious to perform an abhishek (ritual bath) of Lord Shaligram using milk and water, and then offer sacred items used in worship. After the abhishek, it is advised to drink a small portion of the consecrated water and pour the rest at the base of a Tulsi plant. Doing so is believed to bring positive and auspicious results.
