What Are Ashras In Ramadan?

The holy month of Ramadan is divided into three Ashras (stages), each consisting of ten days. The term "Ashra" is derived from the Arabic word meaning "ten." Each Ashra carries a special spiritual meaning and purpose. The three Ashras are as follows:

  • First Ashra (Days 1-10): Known as the Ashra of Mercy (Rahmat or Barakah), it signifies the mercy of Allah upon His believers.
  • Second Ashra (Days 11-20): Called the Ashra of Forgiveness (Maghfirat), it is dedicated to seeking forgiveness from Allah for past sins.
  • Third Ashra (Days 21-30): Known as the Ashra of Freedom from Hellfire (Najaat), it is the most crucial stage where believers pray for salvation.

It is believed that reciting special prayers (duas) during each Ashra brings immense blessings and rewards from Allah.

Significance Of The First Ashra:

The first ten days of Ramadan are known as the Ashra of Mercy (Rahmat or Barakah). It is believed that during this phase, Allah showers His boundless mercy upon the fasting believers. Observing Roza (fasting) and offering prayers during these ten days is said to bring divine blessings and grace.

During this period, Muslims are encouraged to engage in as many good deeds as possible, such as giving charity, helping those in need, and performing extra prayers. The first Ashra is a time to seek Allah’s mercy and show kindness to others.

Dua For The First Ashra Of Ramadan 2025:

To seek Allah’s mercy during the first Ashra, Muslims are advised to recite the following dua frequently over the first ten days:

Dua in English: Allahumma arhamni (O Allah, have mercy on me).

In addition to reciting this dua, believers are encouraged to engage in acts of kindness, charity, and sincere devotion to strengthen their spiritual connection with Allah.
