Karwa Chauth 2024: The Karwa Chauth fast in 2024 will be observed on Sunday, October 20. This fast holds immense significance for married women, especially those observing it for the first time after marriage. The fast is known for being observed without consuming water throughout the day. It begins early in the morning before sunrise with the consumption of Sargi and concludes at night after sighting the moon and offering prayers to it (Arghya). According to tradition, women observe this fast for the good health and long life of their husbands.

Special Traditions For Newlywed Brides:

The first Karwa Chauth after marriage holds special significance for both the bride and her in-laws. On this day, the bride receives various gifts from her maternal home, including fruits, sweets, dry fruits, and traditional snacks like Mathri. In addition to this, utensils, clothes, and other essential items are sent for the family and relatives of the bride.

One of the key customs includes sending clothes for the bride and her husband from the maternal home. Staples like rice and sugar are also considered essential gifts during Karwa Chauth. The gifts sent from the maternal home hold immense importance, as it is believed to bring good fortune to the bride’s new home. Items like Suhag (symbolic items representing marital status), sarees, and jewellary are traditionally given either before or on the day of Karwa Chauth.

Significance Of Sargi, Baya, And Poiya:

Sargi plays a crucial role in the Karwa Chauth fast. It includes Baya and Poiya, which are important traditional offerings. Sargi is a pre-dawn meal given by the mother-in-law to the daughter-in-law, symbolising love and blessings. After the prayer rituals, the daughter-in-law gives Poiya to her mother-in-law, which contains symbolic items of Suhag, such as clothes, dry fruits, and sweets.
