  • 1 Cup Coconut (grated)
  • 3 Piece Green Chillies
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • Curry Leaves
  • Salt

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Peel and dice raw banana and yam into small cubes. Boil them with a pinch of turmeric until tender but firm.

Step 2

Grind grated coconut with green chillies and cumin seeds into a smooth paste using a little water.

Step 3

In a bowl, mix the yoghurt and coconut paste. Stir well to form a smooth mixture.

Step 4

Add the boiled vegetables to a pan, pour in the yoghurt-coconut mixture, and cook on low heat. Stir continuously to avoid curdling.

Step 5

Sprinkle turmeric and salt. Heat for 5–7 minutes until the Kaalan thickens to a creamy consistency.

Step 6

Drizzle coconut oil and add fresh curry leaves just before removing from heat. Serve hot as part of Onam Sadya.
