Durga Puja is a celebration of heritage, flavours, and age-old traditions that bring families together. While the grand pandals, dhak beats, and rituals create the cultural backdrop, food plays an equally important role in making the occasion unforgettable. Every Bengali household has its own treasured recipes that become a part of festive dining, passed down from one generation to another. Among these timeless classics, Aloo Posto holds a very special place.

For many, Aloo Posto is not just a simple food. It is a comfort on their plate. The subtle flavour of poppy seeds, or posto as Bengalis fondly call it, paired with soft and boiled potatoes that creates a combination that is both simple and deeply satisfying. What makes it so remarkable is its ability to turn humble ingredients into a dish worthy of the grandest occasions. During Durga Puja, when bhog and traditional vegetarian meals are prepared, Aloo Posto often takes centre stage at the family table.

This traditional Bengali dish, Aloo Posto, has a nutty, and creamy texture along with mild flavours that are perfectly balanced with a plate of steaming hot rice and a drizzle of mustard oil. Unlike many elaborate festive recipes, Aloo Posto keeps things minimal yet memorable. Its preparation is straightforward, requiring just a few pantry staples, but the end result is a dish that captures the essence of Bengal’s food culture.

Cooking Aloo Posto for Durga Puja is also a way to connect with tradition while enjoying a dish that resonates with nostalgia.
