And now this is not just something that the Indians feel, but the Americans feel this way too! And how do we know that? Well believe it or not, An Indian restaurant by the name of Chai Paani located in Asheville in North Carolina has received the award for the most outstanding restaurant at the James Beard Foundation Awards in Chicago. The owner of Chai Pani, Chef Meherwan Irani opened the first outlet in downtown Asheville in 2009, in just over a decade it has expanded itself into eight restaurants, spread over Atlanta and Charlotte. Its sister company, Spicewalla, is not only a hit with home kitchens across the country, but is also being used by restaurant chefs across US.
India toh jana hi jata hai for its food abd and now our food is not just enjoyed but also recogonised Internationally. Its about damn time that our food and its value is realised by people all over the world.
But how did Chai Pani gain this accolade?
For a fast-paced world, food on the go is the go to thing, isn’t it? And our very own Chaat is something that we eat on the go only, haina? I mean is any of our market trips or shopping sprees complete without a chaat break? There has to be a bhelpuri ki plate or aloo chaat involved in the whole scene isn’t it? Bass wahi cheez bha gayi Americans ko bhi. That they can enjoy Indian chaat on the go. And along with that, we live in the 21st century where people are realising the importance of vegetarianism and veganism. Indian cuisine that focuses a lot on good and delicious vegetarian food, it was bound to gain importance and recognition. And vegetarian ho yaan non vegetarian, Indian khana and especially hamari chaat is never tasteless or bland, ulta flavours ka blast hota hai hmara khana unlike the common perception that vegan or vegetarian food is bland or apni basha mein bolen toh ghaas phoos.
Inn reasons se people started liking and enjoying Indian cuisine and street food and that is what led Chai Paani to win this award.
And abh jo mein bolungi usse aapke muh mein paani ajaye, toh uske liye I apologise in advance. Some of Chai Paani’s bestsellers are Bhelpuri, Sev Dahi Puri, Corn Bhel, Green Mango Chaat, Potato Chaat, Aloo Tikki, Kale Pakoras and hamara apna uttapam aka unka namkeen crepe. So are you suddenly craving some chaat? I know I am
