- China's foreign ministry said on Friday that it summoned Beijing-based Canadian diplomat Jim Nickel over Canada's participation in a statement issued by the foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) nations. This is the latest in a string of diplomatic complaints made by Beijing after the G7 called on China on Wednesday to resolve tension around the Taiwan Strait in a peaceful manner.

- North Korea made preparations for a nuclear test during the first six months of this year, according to an excerpt of a confidential United Nations report seen by Reuters on Thursday. “Work at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site paves the way for additional nuclear tests for the development of nuclear weapons," independent sanctions monitors reported to the UN Security Council North Korea sanctions committee.
- Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has hiked piped cooking gas (PNG) prices by Rs 2.63 per unit in Delhi and its adjoining cities citing a rise in input costs as the reason. This is the second time in less than two weeks that the rates have increased. Piped cooking gas in Delhi will now cost Rs 50.59 per standard cubic metre (SCM), as against the previous rate of Rs 47.96 while PNG in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad will cost Rs 50.46 per SCM, In Gurugram it will be priced at Rs 48.79 per SCM.
- The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has decided to back the Opposition's Vice-Presidential candidate Margaret Alva in the forthcoming Vice-Presidential elections. In a communique, TRS said that all the 16 MPs of the party have been asked to vote accordingly. The TRS Parliamentary party said that the president of TRS K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to support the combined opposition candidate Mrs Margaret Alva for the post of Vice President of India. The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has 23 MPs in the Lok Sabha, decided to stay away from the Vice-Presidential election alleging that it was not consulted before announcing Alva's name.
- The Reserve Bank of India on Friday decided to keep inflation projection for the current financial year unchanged at 6.7 per cent and said that the retail inflation would remain above the upper tolerance level of 6 per cent through the first three quarters of 2022-23."Incidence of unseasonal and excessive rainfall, if any, can impact food prices, especially vegetable prices. Greater transmission of input cost pressures to selling prices across manufacturing and services sectors may also create fresh price pressures. Moreover, persistently elevated cost of living conditions could translate to higher wages and further price increases, especially if pricing power of firms strengthen," RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said after the Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
- Amid nationwide protest against rising prices and unemployment, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi along with several MPs including Shashi Tharoor were detained by police at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi, news agency ANI reported. Shortly before Rahul Gandhi was detained, the Gandhis were spotted leading protests inside the Parliament buildings, along with other party members. - Singer-actor Lady Gaga has confirmed that she will be starring opposite Joaquin Phoenix in upcoming movie Joker: Folie a Deux. The film is sequel to 2019’s Todd Phillips-directed anti-hero character study Joker. Gaga announced her casting in the Warner Bros project via teaser she posted on her Instagram page. The video clip is set to “Cheek to Cheek”, the song Gaga famously covered with legendary singer Tony Bennett.
- Vijay Devarakonda’s, upcoming movie, 'Liger' has been awarded a UA certificate by the censor authorities. With this, the decks are cleared for the movie's release. The movie runtime stands at 2 hours 20 minutes, with the first half being 1 hour 15 minutes and second half being 1 hour 5 minutes. There are seven fights and six songs in the movie, sources in the production house said.
