India Police Service officer Lakshmi Singh has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Noida by the Uttar Pradesh government, adding that she will be the first woman officer to head the police commissionerate in the state.

India's national security advisor Ajit Doval met French defence Sebastien Lecornu and discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, including global, regional and bilateral security-related subjects. The government has exempted the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from taking its approval for manufacturing, storage, use and transportation of solid propellant for space rockets to promote ease of doing business. Earlier, ISRO was required to take a license from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisations (PESO), an arm of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

Sensex is up 177 points and Nifty is above 18,600 thanks to ICICI Bank, HUL, and ITC; PSBs are down.

The S&P BSE Sensex surged to a new record high of 62,887, although it later gave up part of its gains to end the day 177 points higher at 62,682. In the ensuing six trading sessions, the BSE index has increased by 1,537 points. The NSE Nifty increased by 55 points to a fresh high of 18,618 at the close.

Hindustan Unilver, one of the leading equities, increased by more than 4% to Rs 2,635. ITC and Nestle India also finished with consistent improvements. The Nifty FMCG index increased by over 2% to 45,078.

JSW Steel saw the biggest gain among the other Nifty 50 stocks, rising more than 2%. The other notable winners included Cipla, Hero MotoCorp, Sun Pharma, Britannia, and Dr. Reddy's.
