INTERNATIONAL NEWS

  • In a late night statement, Pakistan on Wednesday rejected the closure report of the Court of Inquiry (CoI) in the case regarding the accidental firing of Missile. The responsibility for the accident was fixed on three officers of the Indian Air Force on Tuesday and all of them have been terminated from service. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “Pakistan rejects India’s purported closure of the incident of the firing of a supersonic Missile into Pakistani territory on 9 March 2022 and reiterates demand for a joint probe.”
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are set to visit Tokyo next month to hold the next edition of the '2+2' dialogue with their Japanese counterparts, which is expected to cover a range of key issues including the situation in the Indo-Pacific, people familiar with the development said on Wednesday.
  • Announcing to dispatch its 12th consignment of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj on Wednesday said India encourages talks between Ukraine and Russia. In her address to the United Nations Security Council briefing, Kamboj said “India encourages talks between Ukraine and Russia and PM Narendra Modi has himself, more than once, spoken to them in this regard,” reported news agency ANI.
  • An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan on Thursday granted interim bail till September 1 to former prime minister Imran Khan in a terrorism case registered against him for threatening police, judiciary and other state institutions during a rally in the capital last week.



NATIONAL NEWS

  • The BJP on Wednesday alleged the Delhi government ignored recommendations of a three-member expert panel set up to reform the liquor trade in the city and gave licences to companies that paid "hefty commissions" to the ruling AAP. It alleged the AAP government did not follow the suggestions of its own panel to "gain an unfair advantage" in the Punjab polls and is now deflecting the BJP's questions on the issue.
  • The Election Commission (EC) of India has recommended disqualification of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren as an MLA for violating electoral law . The EC has sent a letter to the governor in this regard. The recommendation has been made in relation to a mine owned by the Chief Minister, reported ABP News.
  • The CBI team has reached the bank with RJD MLC Sunil Singh where he has his lockers. There is a locker of Sunil Singh in the State Bank of India located in SK Puri, Patna. The team is investigating what has been kept here. Apart from this, MLC Sunil Singh has a locker in another bank. Apart from State Bank, Bank of India also has a locker. This will also be investigated.
  • A day after raids at multiple locations, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Ranchi-based businessman Prem Prakash, in connection with alleged illegal mining in Jharkhand. The ED on Wednesday carried out fresh raids in the ongoing money-laundering investigation into alleged illegal mining in Jharkhand and recovered two AK-47 assault rifles and 60 bullets.
  • The Supreme Court on Thursday sought the Gujarat government's response on a plea challenging the release of 11 men convicted for the gangrape of Bilkis Bano during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana also asked the petitioners to implement those who have been granted remission as parties in the matter. The bench also posted the matter for hearing after two weeks.

  • Raju Srivastava gained consciousness today after 15 days. The popular comedian-actor was admitted to AIIMS Delhi after he suffered a heart attack on August 10. Currently, he is being monitored by doctors. His Personal Secretary Garvit Narang informed ANI that his health condition is improving. A statement from the family is awaited.
  • Actor-model Milind Soman will play Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in Kangana Ranaut's period drama "Emergency", the makers announced Thursday. Billed as the story of a watershed moment in the political history of India, "Emergency" is written and directed by Ranaut. She also stars as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the upcoming film.
  • A new poster for John Abraham’s villainous character in the upcoming action film Pathaan has been unveiled. The film serves as Shah Rukh Khan’s grand return to the big screen after a four-year gap. The film also stars Deepika Padukone in a pivotal role.
  • K-pop sensation BTS will headline "a free in-person concert" on October 15 to support South Korea's bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan, announced their management agency BigHit Music

  • Hong Kong defeated hosts UAE by eight wickets to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022. It will be Hong Kong’s fourth appearance in the Asia Cup. Hong Kong chased down a target of 148 to secure their third successive win in the qualifiers held at the Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Muscat, Oman.
  • Belarusian twice Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka has pulled out of the “Tennis Plays for Peace Exhibition” to raise humanitarian aid for Ukraine given the sensitivities of the Ukrainian players, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) said on Wednesday.
  • The Indian men’s doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun continued their dream run at the BWF World Championships on Thursday by reaching their maiden quarterfinals with a come-from-behind victory over Terry Hee and Loh Kean Hean. The unseeded Indian duo had to toil hard for 58 minutes to win its round of 16 clash against the Singaporeans 18-21, 21-15, 21-16.
