The Golden Jubilee of the North Eastern Council (NEC) was celebrated in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Shillong. He also launched several developmental works today.

While inaugurating various developmental projects he said, "honest efforts to send out corruption, bias, nepotism, violence, stalling of projects, and vote bank politics. But you know that the roots of these diseases run deep. So, we all have to uproot it together." (Source: PIB)

During a meeting which marks the golden jubilee celebration of the North Eastern Council, the PM spoke about India's G20 Presidency & said that its meetings would bring from all over the world who will be coming to the Northeast. PM Modi said In the last 8 years, several outfits left the path of violence and followed the path of peace. In coordination with the state governments, the situation is being continuously improved to see that there is no need for AFSPA in the northeast. (Source: PIB)

Established by an Act of the Parliament in 1971 (Act No. 84 of 1971), NEC was formally inaugurated on November 7, 1972, at Shillong, Meghalaya, marking the beginning of a new chapter of concerted and planned endeavour on the part of the Government of India for the North Eastern Region. (Source: PIB)
