Robots Lead Diwali Celebrations, Perform Guard Duties In Jaipur Housing Society

One of the robots, Sona 2.5 manned food service at the cafeteria in the society, while Sona 3.5 robot registered complaints and gave feedback on queries related to the residents.

Residents of a housing society in Jaipur were witness to a unique Diwali this year as they celebrated the festival of lights with four humanoid robots on Monday. The robots, made by Club First Robotics led the celebrations in the Gulmohar Garden Society by lighting sparklers and crackers. They also shook hands with the residents and greeted the guests, reported news agency PTI.

Robotics expert and the man behind the idea of the event, Bhuvnesh Mishra spoke about how robots can also help police in accomplishing tasks during festivities.

"When all of us are celebrating Diwali, personnel in the fire brigade and police and sanitation workers are performing their duties away from their families. In such situations, these robots can become their support. They can efficiently accomplish tasks such as extinguishing a fire in an emergency," Mishra said, as reported by PTI.

Xena 5.0, a robot designed for defence, performed the guard's duties during the celebrations, activated the fire fighting system, watered the garden and conducted video surveillance, reported PTI. It also manned the parking area and signalled to remove vehicles parked in an incorrect manner.

Meanwhile, air quality in the national capital Delhi dropped to the 'very poor' category after Diwali celebrations as firecrackers were burst despite an absolute ban.

An AQI of zero to 50 is regarded as "good," 51 to 100 as "satisfactory," 101 to 200 as "moderate," 201 to 300 as "poor," 301 to 400 as "very poor," and 401 to 500 as "severe.
