Amul Girl 'Lands' In UK To Welcome First Indian-Origin PM Rishi Sunak
Rishi Sunak made history after he became the first non-white prime minister of the UK. Amul cooperative created an illustration to congratulate him.
New Delhi: Making history, Indian-origin Rishi Sunak was elected as the Prime Minister this of the UK. This is the first time a non-white person was elected for the top position, best wishes poured in from Indians across the world on social media. Dairy co-op Amul used its famous illustrations to congratulate Sunak.
The tweet read, "Welcoming Britain's first Indian-origin PM!" The company's mascot is seen with Sunak in London. The text in the image reads, "Rishi Sunuk. Prime Makhan," in blue colour, some letters have been highlighted in red to make it appear as "UK PM."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too wished the new UK PM. He said, "Warmest congratulations @RishiSunak! As you become UK PM, I look forward to working closely together on global issues and implementing Roadmap 2030. Special Diwali wishes to the 'living bridge' of UK Indians, as we transform our historic ties into a modern partnership."
The 42-year-old leader of the Conservative Party became the prime minister on Monday after his rival Penny Mordaunt backed out. He became the PM after Liz Truss resigned after 45 days.
Sunak was born in Southampton on May 12, 1980, into a family with immigrant roots. His parents Yashvir and Usha, both pharmacists, migrated to the UK from East Africa and have roots in Punjab.
Sunak has degrees from the University of Oxford and Stanford University and a stint at the Goldman Sachs investment bank, Sunak has served as the UK Finance Minister and was praised for his Covid-19 economic rescue package.
