'Middle Class Can’t Afford...': Jaipur Man Shares 4.27 Lakh Fee For Class 1 Admission

Private school fee hikes in India have sparked social media outrage, with users criticising exorbitant tuition, extracurricular expenses, and transportation charges.

The hike in fee structure in private schools across India has raised concerns on social media. Users highlighted the exorbitant tuition fee, along with additional charges for extracurricular activities, books, and transport, which places a heavy financial burden on middle-class families.

In a post on X, a user highlighted "Good education is a luxury - which the middle class can not afford". In the screenshot of the fee structure of a school in Jaipur, he shared considering his daughter's admission in Class 1, noting that the amount for the entire year will reach Rs 4.27 lakh.

Venting his frustration, he said "This is the price of quality education in India. Can you afford it even if you earn 20 lakh a year? - NO."

He come up with the break down of fees and mentioned - registration charges: Rs 2,000, admission fees: Rs 40,000, caution money (refundable): Rs 5,000, annual school fees: Rs 2,52,000, bus charges: Rs 1,08,000, books and uniform: Rs 20,000. Total: Rs 4,27,000 per year. The total comes to Rs 4,27,000.

"My daughter will start Grade 1 next year, and this is the fee structure of one of the schools we are considering in our city. Note that other good schools also have similar fees," said the user.

Netizens Spark On Fee Structure

The post on the increase of fee structure in private schools attracted several users with mixed responses in the comment section. One of the users said, "Admission Fees: ₹40,000 is charged every year? Uniform Fees is taken every year? Bus Charges: ₹1,08,000 , looks exxagerated number to me, even if the bus is taking ₹2500/month it will be ₹30,000 annual I am not diverting from your views though! You are right that the tax bracket has not moved upwards like the IT salaries in India has not adjusted as per inflation!"

"THE second most popular birth control method is Condom. The first is school fees. So are u planning a second kid?" another user mocked.

The next said, "I always tell people that they need to count the money they spend for a good education as part of taxes, since in most high tax countries once you pay taxes it covers quality education and sometimes healthcare too."

Another also said, "Total: ₹4,27,000 per year! Multiply this with 12 and add 10% hike every year. Then see the power of compounding. Does this school( JPIS) gives direct entry to civil services?"
