Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate several programmes at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, during his April 14 visit. According to Sarma, the PM will also lay the foundation stone for an institute and attend the closing ceremony of the Gauhati High Court's platinum jubilee celebrations at Sankardev Kalakshetra in the state's capital, ANI reported.

"PM Modi will be present at the event at Sarusajai Stadium. He will lay the groundwork for the Rs 1,709 crore Assam Petro Chemicals Limited 500 project TPD Methanol in Namrup. He will lay the groundwork for a new bridge connecting Palasbari and Sualkuchi on the Brahmaputra River, which will cost Rs 3,197 crore:" the Assam chief minister said.

"According to its expansion plans, the company aimed to produce 500 tonnes of methanol per day at its Namrup plant and 200 tonnes per day at its Bongaigaon plant. On April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the plant," Assam Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora said on Saturday.

Bora further said that Assam Petrochemicals Limited (APL), which was founded in 1971, was the first company in the country to produce methanol from natural gas and is a leading player in the Indian petrochemical industry, known for high-quality products and a strong commitment to sustainable development.

On Saturday, the Assam minister presided over a meeting in Guwahati to review event preparations and assess the plant's operation.

Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited (APL), the first company in India to set up a Methanol plant using Natural Gas as feedstock, is a Government of Assam undertaking, with the Government of Assam owning 51 per cent of the company and Oil India Limited owning 49 per cent.
