Tripura Attributes Dengue Case Surge To Bangladesh, Starts Screening At Border Checkposts

Tripura government has set up a six-member Rapid Response Team with specialist doctors for conducting special screenings at the potential dengue pockets.

New Delhi: Amid a surge in dengue cases in Tripura over the last few days, the government stepped up precautionary measures, including special screenings at immigration checkposts along the Bangladesh border, news agency PTI reported. The state has reported 92 cases in the last few days, with most of them from Sepahijala district along the Bangladesh border, PTI quoted an official as saying.

According to Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine, Supriya Mallik, out of 92 cases, 84 were reported in Dhanpur and Melagharh in Sepahijala, and the rest were detected in Kanchanmala in West Tripura district. Although there hasn’t been any dengue-related death so far, the state has started taking all precautionary steps to check the surge.

Tripura government has set up a six-member Rapid Response Team with specialist doctors for conducting special screenings at the potential dengue pockets, Mallik said, adding, tests are also being conducted at three immigration checkposts along the Bangladesh border.

The health department official further claimed that dengue cases were spreading from the neighbouring country, which is already grappling with a rapid spike.

"Mosquitos can cross the fence along the international border, and bite the people living in the border areas. We strongly believe that dengue mosquitoes are coming from Bangladesh and spreading in the bordering areas of Sonamura subdivision," PTI quoted Mallik as saying.

Assuring that the situation is under control in Tripura, the official said necessary kits and medicines have been made available in Dhanpur and Kathalia hospitals.

Speaking on the death of a 72-year-old person from Melaghar, who was suffering from high fever and other complications, Mallik said the state has formed a medical team to probe into the matter and find out the cause of death.
