CM Himanta Sarma Invites PM Modi To Unveil Various Projects In Assam

After meeting the Prime Minister in Delhi on Monday, Assam CM Himanta Sarma invited him to visit the state and unveil a host of projects there.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament House in New Delhi and discussed a gamut of issues with him. In the course of the interaction, the Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing initiatives and welfare schemes in the state and invited him unveil various projects in the state.

Chief Minister Sarma extended invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Assam and lay the foundation stone of the Kamakhya Corridor Project, dedicate to the nation the imposing statue of Lachit Borphukan -- an Ahom commander who is known for his leadership in the battle of Saraighat that thwarted an invasion by the Mughal forces under the command of Ramsingh I, inaugurate the Tinsukia Medical College, and lay the foundation stone of the Sivasagar Medical College.

Later taking to X, Chief Minister Sarma wrote, "It was my pleasure to extend an invitation to Hon PM to visit Assam and lay the foundation stone of the Kamakhya Corridor project, dedicate the grand statue of Bir Lachit at Jorhat and inaugurate the Tinsukia Medical College and lay the foundation of Sivasagar Medical College."

The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to seek the Prime Minister’s counsel on organising the Assam Business Summit in 2024, the DIPR release said. 

"Our aim is to establish the Assam Business Summit as a platform to attract private investments and accelerate our economic growth," Chief Minister Sarma later wrote on X.

Later, Chief Minister Sarma met Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw at the Rail Bhawan and had a discussion on the roadmap to enhance and modernise the railway infrastructure in Assam. Minister Vaishnaw gave insights on the Assam government’s newly released semiconductor policy, it said.

Chief Minister Sarma also called on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Parliament House and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Minister for her continuous and unwavering support in enabling Assam make rapid strides in different sectors, the release further said.
