'Most Corrupt Govt': Rahul Tears Into Himanta Govt As 'Nyay' Yatra Enters Assam, CM Hits Back

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the India's most corrupt government was running in Assam as his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra reached Jorhat.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who kickstarted the Assam leg of 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, on Thursday attacked the Himanta Biwsa Sarma dispensation saying that the "most corrupt" government in India runs in Assam. Hours after Gandhi called Sarma the "most corrupt CM", the BJP leader launched a counterattack and termed the Gandhi family "the most corrupt" one in the country.

Addressing a public gathering at Haloating in Sivasagar district, Rahul Gandhi said, "Perhaps, the most corrupt government in India is in Assam. You know what is happening here. We will raise the issues of Assam during the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra'," the Congress leader said, as quoted by PTI.

The Congress leader also came down heavily on Bharatiya Janata Party, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address.

"BJP-RSS are doing injustice in the country and every state. Be it economic injustice, social injustice or political injustice. There is an atmosphere of civil war in Manipur and till date PM Modi has not visited the state," said the Wayanad MP. "The Prime Minister had made big promises in Nagaland. He signed the framework agreement nine years ago. People of Nagaland are today asking what happened to that agreement," he added.

The Assam CM slammed Gandhi's remarks and said "According to me, the Gandhi family is the most corrupt family in the country". He also alleged that the Gandhi family is carrying a "duplicate" name.

"They are not only corrupt but also duplicate. Their family name is not even Gandhi, (but) they are carrying their duplicate names. I can catch if someone carries a duplicate licence, but I don't know what happens if one carries a duplicate title. That is why they are roaming," Sarma added, as quoted by PTI.
