Assam DGP Pledges Crackdown On Cyber Frauds In New Year Message To His Colleagues

Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh sends a New Year message to state police, highlighting a fresh start for service to Assam.

Guwahati: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh has sent a ‘strong’ New Year message to his colleagues of all ranks in the state police force. DGP Singh said that the New Year opens an opportunity to write a fresh chapter in the book of service of the police to the people of Assam.

As a New Year exhortation to his colleagues in the state police force, DGP Singh asked all the police personnel of Assam to re-dedicate themselves to provide to the people with an improved policing experience. In his New Year message, he asked the Assam police personnel to primarily focus on cyber crimes, especially cyber financial frauds, that affect a large number of people in Assam and other parts of the country and the world. He said that the misuse of financial institutions, and mobile and internet platforms towards such cyber crimes have to be handled with a focused approach.

DGP Singh in his message said that the police offices and police stations should continue to be temples for police personnel and the safest refuge for the citizens, especially the women, children, and the marginalised sections of society. He warned the police personnel stating that any kind of sexual and financial misconduct in such pious premises would continue to be unacceptable.

The top cop asked the state police personnel to further improve the investigation which would result in an improved rate of charge sheets and convictions making full use of the potential of the forensics, as envisaged in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSSA), that would lead to qualitative change in lives of the people of Assam.

The DGP asked his colleagues in the state police force to reiterate their focus on these areas and not to forget the areas that they have to have ‘zero tolerance’.

In view of the increasing incidents of road accidents in Assam, DGP Singh stated that the scourge of road traffic accidents and comprehensive improvement in traffic movement has to be addressed holistically with Assam police being a major stakeholder and a change agent. He asked the police officials to strive to improve their conduct and behaviour towards their junior colleagues and with the general public, thus giving them respect and treating them with empathy.

The DGP also asked the state police force to refrain from being inebriated while on duty or while wearing uniform and warned them that such conduct would continue to remain unacceptable. DGP Singh further said that he is hopeful that together, the state police can write a glorious chapter in Assam’s march toward peace, prosperity, and development.
