'Absolutely Inhuman': Union Min RK Ranjan Singh After Manipur House Set On Fire By Mob

A mob in Manipur torched the residence of Union Minister RK Singh in Imphal. Reacting to the incident, the minister said those indulging in violence are 'absolutely inhuman'.

Amid continuing unrest in the northeastern state of Manipur, a mob torched the residence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs RK Ranjan Singh at Kongba in Imphal on Thursday late night, reported ANI citing the Manipur government. Reacting to the incident, the minister told the news agency that he was in Kerala for official work. He added that the miscreants came with petrol bombs and damage has been done to the ground floor and first floor of his house.

"Thankfully, nobody got injured last night at my Imphal home...It is very sad to see what is happening in my home state. I will still continue to appeal for peace. Those indulging in this kind of violence are absolutely inhuman," the minister further said.

Speaking to ANI, he said that he was shocked and that the law and order situation in Manipur has totally failed.

This is not the first time the minister's house was attacked by an angry crowd. Earlier on May 26, a mob charged at his house asserting that the government was not taking adequate measures to safeguard the local populace from militants belonging to a different community.

Speaking to the news agency ANI, Singh said, “The Manipur violence was unpredicted...it was a bit difficult to find out and secure the vulnerable area...now we have identified the vulnerable areas and CM has deployed central paramilitary forces, rapid action forces, state commandos and state civil forces..."

Security forces dispersed a mob attempting to surround Singh's residence in the Kongba area of the district with the use of tear gas shells at approximately 8 pm on Thursday.

Singh, an esteemed member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and a representative of the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, holds a senior position in the party.

He is the second minister whose house was targeted by an enraged mob claiming that adequate measures are not being taken up to safeguard the locals.

On Wednesday, a group of individuals asserted that the government is failing to safeguard community members from militants of a different group and, as a result, targeted the residence of Manipur PWD Minister Konthoujam Govindas in Bishnupur district.
