New York: In a dramatic announcement, all powerful Speaker and pivot against Donald Trump, Nancy Pelosi announced that the House will not hold a formal House vote to launch an impeachment inquiry, after meeting with House Democrats to discuss the possibility of holding a vote on the ongoing impeachment inquiry against President Trump. This is in defiance of calls from the White House and Republicans to do so. CNBC reported that the decision to hold off on a formal vote comes amid growing pressure from Republican lawmakers and White House officials who have criticized House Democrats' efforts as an illegitimate attempt to undermine Trump's presidency. But many members of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's caucus want to avoid the perception that the White House is dictating how the House, as part of a separate and equal branch of government, conducts itself, an aide familiar with Democrats' discussions told CNBC. A formal House vote is not a step that is required by the Constitution to begin an impeachment inquiry, although previous inquiries have started with such a vote.
